Employee Spotlight: Monte Mitchell

Meet Monte Mitchell. Our creative Art Director that isn't afraid to say a few terrible dad jokes every now and then (or all the time).

Working with Monte at Anthem Branding is something else entirely. His creative process and the end result of those creative projects attests to the beauty of his job and skill.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: The variety of work each day for myself and the team keeps things interesting. It's fun to adapt stylistically and watch everyone else in their approach to their design challenges. I love the opportunity to tinker with software features or design techniques, and then share my findings with the team (or shame, when I realize everyone else already knew a particular feature).

Q: Who had the most influence over you?

A: As cliche as it sounds, my mom for sure. She encouraged a lot of independent thinking and motivation through her example and her wit. Also, she always hung all of my drawings on the fridge.

Q: What color represents your personality and how does that color make you feel?

A: CAMO. I really like the outside and the wilderness. I try to spend as much time as possible hiding in it, but not hunting really - so I guess that kind of makes me a poser with the camo and all.

Q: How would your best friends or family describe you in three words?

A: Spontaneous, resourceful, and playful.

Q: What is your favorite activity to do locally and why?

A: I'm going to go with trail running because it counters my second favorite activity: drinking as much local beer as possible.

Q: What is you favorite local restaurant?

A: I'm on a Fuji Cafe kick lately - one of the only places I'm aware of that does onigiri well. It's essentially all I get there.

Q: Best concert you have ever attended?

A: REALLY tough call to pick just one. I saw Sufijan Stevens at The Paramount when he was promoting "The Age of Adz," and it was visually grandiose, immersive, and intimate. It was part Art Rock Show, part autobiography, and part art history, detailing Prophet Royal Robertson (the artist who inspired the visual style behind the album). I'd say it had a lot of shock value, but then again, I did see GWAR once...

Q: Where's your favorite place in the world?

A: Near the Four Corners area, in Colorado. Off-road, we found a high cliff among unmarked ruins and camped overlooking 360° high-desert views of Sleeping Ute, Shiprock, and Monument Valley. That's my favorite place, with travel Catan and a cooler of Odell IPA.

Q: Secret talent?

A: I have a pretty nerdy ability to identify fonts just by looking at them, which works out great at work, but probably dampens friendships when I belt out font names in public.
